The Voice That Is – Best Sound at CAF 2025

PT.Audio CAF Report from Marc Phillips: TIDAL Audio, Turnbull Audio and The Voice That Is

”I noticed something about The Voice That Is system at CAF 2025, something I haven’t thought of until now. Before I visited this room, I heard a lot of decent sound at the show, but nothing that really caught my attention. Then I visited this room, heard this amazing system, and my ears seemed to wake up for the first time. After walking out and covering the rest of the show, I started hearing really good sound from the other rooms. (Nothing quite matched the combination of TIDAL Audio, Turnbull Audio, REL and Doug White.) My theory is that the sound of this system was so elevated above everything else that it recalibrated my brain so that I could hear the other systems more clearly. The lesson here? Whenever The Voice That Is is showing at an audio show, I need to go there first.’“

“It all comes down to the Occasional Podcast discussing the 2025 Capital Audiofest. (Link) Brian Hunter asked his usual show coverage question, “What was CAF 2025’s Best Sound of the show?” Scot Hull, Brian and I didn’t hesitate. “Oh, The Voice That Is,” we said, almost in unison. Sure, we all know Doug White and we think the world of him, but our admiration goes well beyond that. No one sets up an audio system more effectively than Doug White. No one is more discerning when it comes to carrying the best brands than Doug White. The sound is always transcendent, and Doug’s taste in music is beyond reproach. From the minute I walked into this room, I knew it would be hard to beat. It was. “

My sonic taste prefers accurate reproduction of the recording engineer’s efforts where instruments have tonality and texture. I frequent live concerts and, because I have musician friends who perform nationally and internationally, my need to play is suppressed. More importantly, it keeps me in touch with the reality of the live performance. It was when I stopped playing did I have the realization that my audio system was not true to my playing experience. That’s when my search began – visiting, and later working in, high end audio stores.
